My story isn’t polished. It’s not tied up with a bow. I’m still living it, learning from it, and sharing what actually helps me along the way.
Turning 50 hit different.
After more than twenty years on birth control, I stopped taking it when I turned 50… and went straight into post-menopause. No warm-up. No gradual shift. Just a full-on hormonal roller coaster that I never signed up for. Did you know that Birth Control will mask menopause completely? I didn't!
And then — within months of this — I lost my mom very unexpectedly.
My heart was heavy, my body felt foreign, and life just kept handing me more than I could carry. I cannot even recall the sadness during this time. I was numb, I barely remember living it, I only survived. Over the next 2 years I would have many highs and lows and gained 50+ Pounds!
In 2024 I lost two more pieces of my heart — Sam, my 19-year-old Shih Tzu who had been with me since he was six weeks old, and Wizard, the dog I adopted when my mom passed. Losing them was a pain like losing my mama all over again. I felt ungrounded, inflamed, exhausted, achy, puffy, and emotionally stretched thin.
And honestly? Some days I still do.
In 2022, I married Michael — my best friend since 7th grade, my person, my “you’re beautiful even when you don’t feel it” whisperer. Life with him has brought me so much love and peace… but even while living all the joy, the inner struggles don’t magically disappear. I still didn't feel like me on the inside.
That part is real.
And it’s normal.
And we don’t talk about it enough.
I don't really remember an AHA moment, but I was just in a position that I was uncomfortable more than not. I was puffy, my skin didn't look good. I was always tired and not sleeping well. I had gained a lot of weight and just didn't feel good. I had to do something.
I realized I didn’t need a perfect plan.
I needed habits that were actually doable for a woman in this stage of life.
I needed to breathe again. Feel like me again.
So I started small — tiny, almost unnoticeable shifts that I could manage on the hard days:
✨ high-protein meals that kept me full
✨ using cleaner products in my home and on my skin
✨ deep dive in researching hormone-safe everything (yes… even my underwear)
✨ gentle movement whenever my body said “yes”
✨ natural tools and routines that made me feel supported
✨ and more grace than I thought I was allowed to give myself
Some days I nail it.
Some days I don’t.
But every day, I keep going — because I want to feel better than I did yesterday.
I have found a lot of information along the way. I don't want to keep it to myself if it can help one other person!
I want other women to know they aren't crazy, broken, or alone. Midlife is a LOT — physically, emotionally, spiritually — and most of us are just trying to find our footing again.
